Dear swimmers and boaters,
I sent out boater information yesterday. If you are a swimmer,
contact your boater ASAP. As you swimmers and boaters are
exchanging information this week, please copy John and me on any email
messages so that we can collect the information. We need to be
able to contact everybody during the race.
A little about Friday night. There will be a check-in table where
you get your cap and shirt and a course map. Please make sure
that your boater has a good map and knows where to go. John
Werner will tantalize you with all you wanted to know about the Boston
Light Swim. We'll have dinner. I go over swim
details. Should be a good evening.
Before Friday's banquet. Get all your gear ready, including the
bag of stuff (per Dori Miller's suggestion) for the finish line.
Get your nourishment squared away, e.g., warm sugared tea,
PowerGel/Gu. Remember sunblock! Check the water temperature
at the Boston
Light buoy.
On Saturday. Get to the BHYC on time and check in with race
officials. Rendezvous with your boater. Get payment made
and get all your gear ready. Go over the course. Remember
to look backward when you motor out to the course start so you know
where you will be looking coming in on the swim. In particular,
after the last turn around Thompson Island, know where to head on the
homestretch (toward the tall apartment building on the skyline!)
When you get closer, you will see the squash courts and The FINISH
banner. You might even motor over to L Street before proceeding
out and trace the exact route of the course on your way to Little
Brewster Island. At the start, there will be a five-minute horn
blast and then two blasts for the start. We will try to stay
close together in our individual boats for the start. Depending
on the wind and waves this may be hard. We will start off the end
of Little Brewster Island; you jump off your boat and start swimming.
More later,
Fred
